White Sands Scores Five in Eighth to Defeat California City 10-6

July 18 2019 The White Sands Pupfish defeated the California City Whiptails 10-6 after scoring five runs in the eighth inning. White Sands collected 13 hits and played errorless baseball while California City finished with 11 hits and two errors.

White Sands took a 3-2 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the sixth to move ahead 5-4. The Pupfish broke the game open with their five-run eighth, and California City answered with two runs in the ninth. TK Koontz drove in three runs, while Freddie Landers and Ben Bavly each had two RBIs. Tevin Brown had two hits and an RBI, and David Gallagher scored three runs.

Jordan Young earned the victory for White Sands with a complete-game effort, allowing 11 hits and six runs while striking out 10 without issuing a walk. Scott Bigelow took the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits in seven innings, and J. Washington gave up three runs on four hits in one inning. The game was played July 18 2019 at Griggs Park.
