Garden City Wind Defeat White Sands Pupfish 4-2

July 12 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the White Sands Pupfish 4-2 after scoring three runs in the sixth inning and holding off a late White Sands push. Garden City finished with seven hits and one error, while White Sands recorded five hits and committed two errors.

Garden City took a 1-0 lead in the third inning before White Sands tied the game in the fifth. The Wind regained the lead with three runs in the sixth, and the Pupfish added their final run in the eighth. Joel Garza homered and drove in a run for Garden City, while Carson Lee also contributed an RBI. Cutter McDowell went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Brandon Kussmaul had a hit and scored once.

Layne Gusler earned the win after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits in eight innings. He walked three and struck out nine. Austin Willis-Greene worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save. White Sands starter Dorian Lewis took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits in 5.2 innings with five walks and three strikeouts.
