July 11 2019 The Garden City Wind defeated the White Sands Pupfish 17-1, collecting 22 hits in the victory. White Sands finished with six hits and committed five errors, while Garden City made one error.
Garden City took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added two runs in the third and one in the fourth. The Wind broke the game open with six runs in the fifth, then added one in the sixth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth. White Sands scored its lone run in the ninth inning.
Russell Schwertfeger went 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBI for Garden City. Alvin Swoope was 3-for-6 with two runs and a triple, while Jordan Pontious went 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. Carson Lee scored three runs and drove in four, and Cutter McDowell hit a home run and finished with two hits and one RBI. Brandon Kussmaul and Peter Pena each added two RBI, while McDowell and Lee both homered.
Rich Edwards earned the win by allowing four hits and no runs over seven innings without a walk or strikeout. Kyle Koppenhoefer worked a scoreless eighth, and Cutter McDowell allowed one run in the ninth. Marcus Hardy took the loss for White Sands after allowing eight hits and five earned runs in 3.2 innings.
