Roswell Uses Three Homers to Defeat White Sands 9-5

July 24 2018 The Roswell Invaders defeated the White Sands Pupfish 9-5 after collecting 13 hits and scoring in six different innings. Roswell built a 2-1 lead in the first, but White Sands answered with two runs in the second to move ahead 3-2. The teams traded two-run innings in the third and fourth before Roswell tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth.

Roswell took the lead for good with a run in the seventh and added two more in the eighth before scoring once in the ninth. B. Portelli led the Invaders with two home runs, three runs and three RBI, while Austin Maltby also homered and drove in three runs. Nolan Hoff and Jordan Ackerman each collected three hits, and Louis Martini and Justin Byrd also contributed RBI.

White Sands finished with nine hits. Tevin Brown went 3-for-4, while Josh Youngchild had two hits and two runs. Jordan Young hit a home run and drove in two runs, and Brandon Torres added two hits and one RBI.

Jake Waters earned the win after striking out all three batters he faced in one scoreless inning. JD Cozad followed with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four, and Lance Fairchild recorded the save with a scoreless ninth. Roswell starter Ricky Mitchell worked five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs, two earned, while White Sands starter Jordan Young went the distance and was charged with nine runs on 13 hits and eight walks.
