May 28 2018 The Ruidoso Osos defeated the White Sands Pupfish 12-8 at Griggs Park, totaling 12 hits in the high-scoring Pecos League contest. Ruidoso scored in each of the first five innings, building a 9-5 lead after five frames before adding two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. White Sands answered with three runs in the third, two in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the ninth but could not close the gap.
Brock Hartley led the Osos with two home runs, three runs and four RBIs. Jeremy Delgado went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and four walks, while James Garnett collected three hits and Travis Smith added two hits and scored twice. Ruidoso also received home runs from Delgado and had 10 total RBIs as a team.
White Sands also finished with 12 hits. Timothy Carter hit a home run, scored twice and drove in two runs, while Clay Gentle and Greg Chavez each had two hits. Carter was hit by two pitches, and Chris McCoy contributed a double and an RBI.
Nick Carrell earned the win for Ruidoso after allowing six hits and five runs, three earned, in five innings. He walked six and struck out two. Ulric Johnson took the loss for White Sands, surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits in four innings. Ben Stapp followed with three scoreless innings and no hits allowed, while Ruidosos Max Smith recorded three strikeouts over 2.1 innings to finish the victory.
