June 19 2016 The White Sands Pupfish held off the Tucson Saguaros 13-12 in a high-scoring game. White Sands collected 16 hits and Tucson finished with 13, while both teams scored in the ninth inning.
White Sands took an early 1-0 lead before Tucson surged ahead with five runs in the second. The Pupfish answered with three runs in the third and six more in the fifth, then added another run in the sixth to build an 11-6 advantage. Tucson scored once in the eighth and five times in the ninth, but White Sands added two runs in the bottom half to secure the victory.
Eric Kalbfliesh led White Sands with three hits, including a home run, and five RBI. Dubal Baez added three hits and scored four runs while stealing two bases. J. Borowski homered and drove in three runs, and Kenny Chavez also hit a home run while contributing two RBI. White Sands hit four home runs overall.
For Tucson, Davon Poole went 4-for-4 with a triple, a home run and six RBI. Jesse Baker added a pinch-hit home run and three RBI. Zac Johnson earned the win after allowing six hits and five earned runs in 5.2 innings with three strikeouts, and Chris Stout recorded the save. Tucson starter Danny Diaz took the loss after surrendering 10 hits and 10 earned runs in 4.1 innings.
